Nairobi, 8 March, 2025 – In a bold new initiative to empower women and drive economic sustainability, Spiro is partnering Revitalize Homes and Gardens for their GATHER and GROW initiative on International Women’s Day.
This programme combines Spiro’s commitment to sustainable mobility with community-led economic development by supporting women riders and sponsoring an initial 10 edible forests with cash crops in partnership with Revitalize Homes and Gardens. It is hoped this first phase of the project will encourage others come support women in economic development.
By providing electric bikes and sustainable agricultural opportunities, Spiro is enabling women to transform their livelihoods. These edible forests—shambas—will provide short-term income through crops like garlic and chillis, while fruit trees mature over three years, offering long-term economic security. Many of these farms are located in areas that are difficult to reach by car, making Spiro’s electric bikes a vital tool for market access.
Targeting 100,000 Women for Economic Transformation
Spiro aims to reach 100,000 women through this programme, beginning with 10 shambas fully sponsored by Revitalize Homes and Gardens in the initial phase. Spiro’s electric bikes will be made available under an asset financing framework, ensuring that more women can access clean, affordable transport to distribute their produce efficiently and expand their businesses.
Women Riders Leading the Way
Two women, Catherine Mworia (Kenya Bikers Association - KBA) and Mary Ngendo (Boda Boda Association of Kenya - BAK), will be among the first to benefit from this initiative, using their Spiro electric bikes to transport and sell their produce. Catherine Mworia, said: “This opportunity means everything to me. With my Spiro bike, I can reach markets faster, earn a stable income, and invest in my family’s future.” Mary Ngendo from BAK said: “For years, I’ve struggled with unreliable transport and unpredictable earnings. Now, I have a bike, a farm, and a future.”
A Holistic Approach to Women’s Empowerment
Spiro has always championed women’s empowerment, both through electric mobility and broader socio-economic initiatives. Revitalize's GATHER and GROW initiative, which is open to wider partnership, aligns with Spiro’s previous efforts to increase female participation in the clean energy economy, including:
- Spiro Academy: Training female engineers and mechanics in EV technology.
- Employment Opportunities: Women in non-traditional roles across factories, R&D, and swap stations.
- Financial Inclusion: Affordable financing models that enable women to own and operate electric bikes.

Partnerships for a Sustainable Future
The initiative is being launched in partnership with Revitalize Homes and Gardens, an organisation dedicated to sustainable urban farming.
This partnership with Spiro is a game changer. By integrating sustainable transport with agroforestry, we are building a future where women have the tools and knowledge to thrive.

At Spiro, empowering women is at the core of our mission—not just through mobility but through economic resilience. The GATHER and GROW initiative is a powerful example of how we can drive impact beyond transport, supporting women to create lasting change for themselves and their communities.

By leveraging clean mobility and sustainable agriculture, Spiro is redefining what empowerment looks like—one bike, one farm, and one future at a time.
Ends.
